Much has been made of how Facebook has throttled the virality of applications, but not as much has been said about how the decision to introduce advertising on canvas pages has limited the ability of app developers to monetize that inventory.
Facebook has added a column on the right side for them to monetize on canvas pages. The result is that Facebook only allows canvas pages to be 616 pixels wide. App developers cannot use the IAB standard 728 size. This severely limits their ability to work with marketers.
Bummer! I want to rail more on this, but alas, my Eagles and Ravens both lost in their respective Championship games, so I must cry myself to sleep now.
